I have never played a set of strings this good. I put the country strings on my Gibson Wildfirebird, and I tried the Bluegrass strings on my pre-war Gibson L-30. Holy Cow. They feel great, play great, sound great, and are just all round superior to any string I’ve ever used. You can pay a lot more for strings that are just not as good. I will never buy another brand ever again. These are amazing!

Hi there! Wonderful sound, feel, intonation on my Collings D1AT! They just “feel better” than other brands I’ve tried.

Now I have to get them on to some of my other guitars to see how they will do..

    Thanks for making these available!

Oh man! I think I’ve found my new go to strings! Trying them out for the first time tonight! Sounds great ! Feels great! Easier for cross picking than others I’ve used! Great volume as well. I’ve been a long time fan of other coated string brands not gonna name drop here haha but these are my new go to for sure. And customer service is on point fantastic! Got a life time customer here

I really like the sound of the Bluegrass Series strings. I play some Bluegrass, Country and a few Classic Rock covers. These are really nice overall. I Sometime tune down a half step and they perform really well.

First off, the sound is amazing, 5/5.

The customer service is awesome, I really appreciated the personalized thank you note in the shape of a pick, 5/5.

The only negative I have is finger positioning has to be a bit more precise to avoid buzzing. But, the sound these strings have to them more than makes up for it.

You’ve definitely got repeat business coming from me.

I’ve used many different brands playing guitar and mandolin and I can honestly say the Bluegrass and Country Series are by far the best I’ve used! Woodtone is definitely the way to go!

Pretty good sound, but did not last as long as I would have liked. I had to tune quite a bit more than I usually do with my other strings.

    • Woodtone Strings

Hi Steven – Sorry to hear you only think our Bluegrass Series strings are worth 2 stars, but we know they last and hold tune very well, and most of our customers have the opposite experience. Hope you can try them out again sometime! Possibly you got a bad set (which happens from time to time with all string brands… it’s just the nature of guitar strings).

A couple things that could cause strings to go out of tune: 1) Sometimes people cut the strings prior to installing. This compromises the integrity of the wrap wire and the entire string (this is the case for all string brands). It’s recommended to install the string and then cut the excess to ensure the tuning peg securely grips the string. 2) Low quality tuning pegs can cause this as well. We’ve done a ton of testing on these strings so we know they’re quality.

Thanks for the feedback! Hope you can give Woodtone Strings another shot.

I’ve been using the Bluegrass Series pretty hard for a week now. They are still going strong. On one of my guitars they sounded better than the D’Addario EJ17’s. All guitars are not created equal. You need to fine the right string match. I’d like to try their thickest pick.

I bought a few sets of the Bluegrass Series strings. For reference, the guitar is a Boucher BG-52. I have only had them on the guitar for about two weeks, so I cannot comment on their longevity. As a “coated” string, I would expect them to last at least a couple of months, but that remains to be seen. The coating on these strings is imperceptible and so they feel just like any phosphor/bronze round-wound string that I’ve played, which is good or bad, depending on your perspective. I like the gauge set (medium-light). Sonically, I would put them up there with the best phosphor/bronze strings that I’ve played. They are loud, balanced, and punchy. After a few days of solid playing, I have not noticed any degradation, which bodes well for longevity. At $12.90/set, the price is decent. My only minor complaint is that I miss the slipperyness or smoothness on the fingers of the Elixir Nanowebs that have been my go-to. The Woodtone strings are brighter and possibly a bit louder than the Elixers. I am reserving one star because of the longevity question, but otherwise, these are great strings. Also, the folks at Woodtone are really nice.

    Allan Ericson

These are good sounding strings, and appear to be of good quality. The tone is fine, and they didn’t take very long to stretch into shape. They stayed tuned overnight, so the break-in period was pretty short.
I will buy them again some day.

    Rick Smith (verified owner)

These strings have a bit higher tension than what I was using. I play mostly fingerstyle and that suits me fine. They do have a warmer, thicker tone. I recommend you give them a try.

I put the Bluegrass set on my Merrill C28. They have a great tone and are easy to fret. I’m waiting to see how long the tone lasts. Most PB in un-coated strings go dead in a short time probably due to my skin chemistry. So, I’ve been using Elixirs but the Woodtone’s are sounding very good and I’ve now placed a second order.

I installed the bluegrass strings on my D35 a couple of weeks ago. So far the tone is holding up. I gave a set of the acoustic string to my friend and he also likes them on his D35. I installed a set of the light gauge on one of my mandolins and so far I love them. I have the medium set on one of my other mandolins. I like the tone and volume it has with these strings. I will be ordering more in the days ahead.

Put a set of the bluegrass strings on my 2020 Recording King RD-328, and absolutely love them, Very rich with excellent deep bass. Bassier than the EJ17 Strings That were on it. Clear mids and crisp trebles. Im a new customer!

A bit more than I usually pay, but I think they’re worth it. The gauge is heavy enough to offer a rich tone, and light enough to allow for quick and clear playing.

Had some doubt but when I final my got ‘em on the sound was gorgeous. I have yet to use to bluegrass strings (tho I did order a pair and will more than likely put them on next) but I’m sure they’ll sound just as great. String orders have been backed up so they came a bit late but Woodtonestrings totally made up for it and sent me 2 extra sets for no charge. (thanks, Rob! Too raw! ) Will not be needing to try anymore strings, these are my people now and my strings. Thanks!

Been trying different strings now and then for years but seldom have I found keepers. Go back to my old standbys in a short time. These have been the exceptions, the small amount of extra tension over lights give a very good feel, without the heaviness of mediums. I am on my fourth set and plan to order more. Have a new ooo coming with the shorter scale and will be anxious to see how they sound on that. Longevity seems very good and the tone is outstanding!

    Adam (verified owner)

They sound good from the moment they’re strung up. Good feel as well. My only complaint would be they don’t last as long as I’d like. After 4 or 5 days I had to change them.

    • Woodtone Strings

Hey Adam, Glad you liked the strings! We usually get a lot longer life out of the strings from our experience, but that all depends on a lot of factors… like the weather, where you store your guitar when you’re not playing it, the type of moisture someone’s fingers leaves on the fretboard, if you cleaned your strings with a microfiber cloth before and after playing, etc. The micro coating we add to the strings should keep them lasting much longer and smoother to play that other strings. We appreciate the feedback though! Hope you can try some again and hope they last longer for you next time! Cheers – Rob

Finally, a great option for those who prefer not to use full medium gauge strings. I’ve used 12-56 “bluegrass” sets for years, and never liked the tension imbalance between the E-A-D and G-B-E strings. This Woodtone set has a nicely balanced feel and great tone, and is now my go-to bluegrass string for jamming and performing.

I am an average, at best, guitar player- playing with friends and at our little church. I really like the tone your strings produce. I just reordered but still playing on my first set of the bluegrass strings! After 2 months strings sound great. I play a Collings D3 custom and use a Blue chip Tad 50 pick that plays so smooth on these strings. The coating on the string best ever! I reordered 2 sets of the country and 1 bluegrass for some friends so they love the sound as much as me.

The bluegrass set sounds great on my ’68 D35; they’ve been on a couple of weeks. I tend not to change strings all that ofter.
The country set I put on my ’55 000-21 sound a bit thin. I strung both guitars up at the same time. We’ll see how both sets last. So I’d give the country set 3 stars and the bluegrass set 5 stars. I have another set of each. Perhaps I’ll try the other country set on my D18…

The Woodtone Bluegrass gave my guitar more projection, balance, warmth, and bell-like trebles with great sustain. Put them on my Martin and they sounded great. Love the feel of them as I went up and down the fret board. Very happy with the tone in generated. I like them a lot. I plan to buy more after I test the Country set. I have a feeling it’s going to be hard to choose between the two. Are you planning to make any for 12 string guitars?

    • Woodtone Strings

Awesome, thanks Trip! Glad you like the Bluegrass Series! You can’t go wrong with the Country Series either… they’re pretty similar but a little lighter to the touch because of the lighter tension. I think you’ll like them also. Yep, we’ll be manufacturing some strings for 12 string guitar fairly soon — probably will have them available within a few months or so. You’ll find them on our website when we have them ready to go.
