Just learning to play and I think they’re great.

My favorite strings on the market. Since I’ve found these, they’re the only strings I use. The feel and tone are tough to beat. Using on a Blue Ridge BR160.

I am a new guitar player, only have about a month of practice under my belt. I wanted to try new strings to see if they were different from what came on my Yamaha Fg-800. And for only playing 1 month I notice quite a big difference in the tone of these strings. I am into bluegrass and country. I purchased the country string and I am very pleased! Sounds great!

    Sam W (verified owner)

So I bought these based on reviews. The strings sound amazing. The strings stayed in tune shortly after I installed them on my guitar. the sustain is incredible so much so that my guitar sounds like a $12,000 guitar.

These strings sound very good, but the first set i used tuned at 440 the g string broke a week later. I thought just a bad string so i put a new set on and just over a week the g string broke on that set. I was checking the tunning and was adjusting the A string when the G broke. I think you may have a problem with the G.

    • Woodtone Strings

Glad you’re liking the sound of our strings! And thanks for letting us know about the G string breakage… we’ll definitely look into that. We appreciate it!

Woodtone strings In my Taylor 714 , no more treble twang like I had with Elixers . Love the picks too !

    Brendon (verified owner)

I’m a country strummer with a little embellished picking throughout, and I have a Yamaha F335 and Seagull S6. Woodtone strings are on both of them in Drop D tuning, and they sound delightful. My neighbor came over after I strung up my first pack and her comment was “wow those sound twangy”. For whatever that’s worth, it fits well with my genre. The price is right, shipping is fast, souund great, but the coolest thing is the customer service. When one string on my third set broke customer service was more than happy to replace them. I will likely keep buying woodtones over my previous Martin MA540T’s.

Is there a UK. Distributor? Please let me know.

    • Woodtone Strings

Glad you like the strings! We will have our strings distributed in UK sometime this year… for now we still offer flat rate $6.95 shipping to the UK for all orders over $20.

I’ve been devoted to Elixer Nanowebs for years, but I was never quite satisfied with the tone. I gave these strings a try and haven’t looked back. I play rock, country and everything in between and the feel of these strings is great, the volume is well balanced, and the tone is exactly what I’ve been searching for. Great strings, I highly recommend!

I don’t know if they feel any different with regards to tension when compared to my martins but they sound damn good. They’ve got personality for sure. Happy I took the chance for my -seagull s6 natural

I bought a new Breedlove and the strings on it were way too stiff, I tried a few other brands and these were suggested. I have been playing them daily and I don’t get hardly any fatigue, and they sound crisp. I will be buying again.

Great tone from these strings. Also, the customer service at Woodtone is exceptional. I broke a G string when I was changing strings. When I contacted Woodtone they sent out a replacement right away!

I picked up a set of the Country Series. The biggest thing I can say is the description doesn’t lie. I have had Mediums on my guitars because I wanted the bigger tone and more solid tuning, but I feel the hurt. The description of these sounded too perfect, too good to be true. I put them on my 000 slotted headstock and immediately it sounded and played like it felt like it was supposed to. They said too good to be true, but it was just true. I’m ordering for my other acoustic right now.

    • Woodtone Strings

Thanks Mark! That’s what we were going for with our Country Series, and it’s great to hear your positive feedback. We appreciate it!

Thanks for the prompt delivery of the strings. I have four acoustic guitars. A Guild, a Sigma and two Taylor guitars. I decided to put your strings on all guitars and that way each guitar should have its unique sound just by the way they are constructed. Those country strings seem to be the right weight and have a rich sound without being too hard to fret. Very satisfied and will certainly continue with these. Thanks again for the great service. I’ve used Elixir strings on all of my acoustic guitars for 10 years, but no more!! I put the Country series strings on my Gibson 45 and WOW!! They sound amazing! These strings are the best I’ve ever heard. I am 100% sold on these strings. Give them a try, you will be pleasantly surprised.

My Martin has forward bracing and over the years the bridge has bellied a bit. To keep it playable I’ve kept it tuned Eb. The low tension on these stings helped.
I’ve got a high end J45 on order and plan on using these strings, hopefully avoiding the bellying altogether.

Very good strings. They sound crisp and full. My only issue is that the G string broke, my first time tuning my guitar. I’ll buy more in the future.

Great tone and responsive as all get out!! I’ve been on mediums for years and notice the difference being just below med and above light… is a perfect adjustment to ease up on the fingers but not lose anything. These will be my strings from here on out. Highly recommend.

I just put the country parabolics on my Gibson J45 12-fret and they feel and sound amazing! A strong woody tone, not too brilliant as some other strings…
    Great for picking and strumming.
I´ve used DÁddario XT Strings for the last months and thought they sound best after one hour of playing.
The WoodTone Strings have the perfect (better) tone right from the first note!

I’ve been searching for the right strings for my 65 j45 adj, being an older instrument the idea of lowering tension appeals to me. The sound is great, the 12.5s are the strings I never knew I needed.

good sounding, a bit dark. they seemed stable. They did not feel “coated” but did not seem to have the bright sustain of other coated strings. Mellow sounding, good for the price.

    Gary Barker (verified owner)

I love these strings. They have a sound that is so much more than the strings that I have been using all these years. I have been using a light gauge Martin SP on my Martin DX1KAE but these Country Series strings are so much more. The sound is not as tinny, and for being a heavier gauge string, are still easy in my fingers.

Had some issues with an order due to incorrect packaging which screwed up some strings. I messaged them and they replied right away and were super helpful. Replaced the two incorrect strings and gave me a whole extra set for free. They even went as far to have a friendly conversation with me. Highly recommend and the strings sound phenomenal. If you want to hear a true difference in play, the country strings are amazing

Bought two packs of the Country strings. Put one set on my Taylor CE214 to try to tame that bright Taylor tone. So far so good. Still bright sounding but a little more mellow overall. I put the second set on a Recording King parlor guitar. It’s super plucky sounding so I thought I’d give it a shot. Seemed to help a bit. Parlors always seem to have a certain tone naturally and these actually brought it to life a little more. Getting ready to order another set for my ‘39 Gibson L-00. Excited to hear how it sounds. Can’t say much for lifespan as I’ve only had them on a couple of weeks. They seem to stay tuned pretty well though and hopefully they hold up to daily use. I don’t foresee any issues though.

Have played them for a couple weeks – nice alternative to standard lights and mediums. Good sound, also like that they are minimally squeaky, in the range of Elixirs which I have found to generally be the quietest strings. Nice job, Woodtone!

    Lamar Flowers (verified owner)

I think these are very good for my first time. The Tone is great and they lasted me 2 shows at 5 hours of live playing and I am still practicing on the same set a little after as well the first time trying these strings. I will try them again. Thank you for creating a great American product!!

I’m a newer player that just hit the one year mark. These were recommended via the Marty Music YouTube channel as I was working on some campfire country songs. I play a Fender 125CE which is a relatively cheap guitar. I also played Earnie Ball strings originally and man, these were a huge step up. It is much easier as a beginner to play both my open and bar chords to on these strings. They sound a lot better than what I was using originally. I’m currently looking at upgrading to a Taylor or a Martin acoustic in the next year or so. I can’t wait to give these strings a shot on a nicer guitar. 5 stars!

    Wesley B. (verified owner)

I found them to be a bit muddy when fingerpicking, but these strings sing when you’re doing some old fashioned campfire strumming. Recommend them for that specifically.

    • Woodtone Strings

Excellent, glad you like our Country Series strings for when you’re using a pick! For a little brighter tone when you’re fingerpicking, you might want to check out our 80/20 Bronze Naturals — we have them in light and medium gauges… we’d probably choose light for fingerpicking. We’re also building our custom light strings now and we’ll have those ready in a few weeks. THanks again for your feedback! We appreciate it.

I’m enjoying the new strings on my Sigma Martin. I like the sound and the softness of them. The only thing I found wrong was the packaging.

    • Woodtone Strings

Thanks Larry! Glad you’re liking the strings! If you have a minute, can you let us know what you didn’t like about the packaging? We’re pretty proud of our packaging and we’d like to improve it where we can. Thanks!

    The good:
I ordered two each of the Country & Bluegrass series and put them on a Martin, a Furch, a Larrivee and a Taylor. Great projection and tone and they played nicely. The Country series was my favorite of the two. They’re comparable to the Santa Cruz strings and, at $5.00 less, I would choose them over the Santa Cruz any day.
    The bad:
One set looked like it hadn’t been washed before packaging. After just a few minutes of playing my fingers were filthy. The other three packages were fine. In addition, the shipping could be a little quicker.

I will definitely be buying more of these in the future.

Excellent! I decided to try Woodstone Country to see if I could get a little more richer tone from my base strings. I installed them on my Alvarez and was richly rewarded. While not as easy to play as my extra lites, they gave my the booming rich sound I was looking for. I’m now going to install a set on my 55 year old Yamaha red Label. Can’t wait! Great strings!

Along with the ease of playing, which is very important, Woodtone strings have a resonant and bright tone. This is wonderful for finger style players’ expression and range. I used them also for my lap style guitar and got great results.

I’m really liking these strings, I’ve always used light gauge uncoated strings, the times I’ve tried mediums I felt they were too stiff and hard on the fingers. These strings seem like a perfect compromise between the two. I’ve always hated coated strings as they felt slippery but I don’t feel that with these strings. If they last longer then regular uncoated stings they’ll definitely be a home run. Already ordered a couple of more sets to try on my other guitars.

I’ve been trying several new strings over the past year. Woodtone is the hands down winner. On all other brands, the low E string sounds muddy very quickly. Not Woodtone! I find myself practicing more because the tone is so pleasing. Well done guys. Highly recommended.

Love the strings. They are the best all around strings i have found. Only one small issue. They are packaged with 2 strings to an envelope, 1 (E) & 4 (G), 2 (A) & 5 (B), and 3 (D) & 6 (e) which is not a problem but it is when strings 3 & 6 are in the envelope labeled 1 & 4. Not paying attention I opened the envelope labeled 1 & 4, installed string 1 and trimmed it only to realize it was string 3 and now it was too short to put it where it was suppose to go. So basically that complete set was done. Luckily I ordered 3 sets. Those sets were also labeled incorrectly. Still get 5 stars from me. I should’ve caught that before i installed. Great communication from staff during my order. My new go to strings

put a set on my Martin Gpcpa4. Had never played coated strings before, these felt “normal”, and there was no new string “quack”. They hold pitch very well. The gauges felt comfortable from the start. Sound really opened up after a good half hour of playing. I have had them on for three months, playing everyday, and there has been minimal decline in tone quality or dynamic range.
The tone- rich, warm, and balanced. The balance across the entire set is truly remarkable. I had been building my own custom gauge sets, and struggled to achieve such balance.
The treble strings sing, respond to vibrato and bending, while the basses are warm, with good definition.
I play both flatpick and finger style, rock stuff, since the 1970’s. These are the best strings I have played.
Looking forward to trying your bluegrass set on my D-18, will keep you posted.

I like the size of country series, half way. Great tone. I find the wound strings to have sharp edges with lots of string noise when moving up and down the string. They are not very comfortable after extended play.

    • Woodtone Strings

Glad you like the tone and the gauge of our Country Series! Our customers are usually really happy with the reduced string noise and soft feel of our strings compared to other brands out there… the micro coating we use is VERY thin so we don’t compromise the true natural tone of our strings. If you’re used to playing with some other string brands that use a much thicker coating, you might be more familiar with the slick feeling of the thick coating on their strings. Hope you can try out the Woodtones a bit longer and hopefully develop a feel for our thinner micro coating. Thanks for the feedback!

Just put these on strings on my Seagull Maritime dreadnaught they sound rich and robust. I usually put Elixir strings strings on my guitars but they are not good for heavy strumming these Woostones strings fit the niche I was looking for.

I ordered two sets of the Country Series strings for my 2013 Blueridge BR160ACE. The tone is really nice for that guitar, and I love the fact that I can bend the higher strings if I want. I’m considering putting the other set on my 1982 Sigma-Martin to see how they sound. I can’t speak to longevity, as I’ve only had them on for a couple weeks. So far, they’re holding their tone very well. I’ll be buying more of these, and I’m considering a set of the Bluegrass strings for my tricone roundneck.

Thank you very much. The strings have a nice mellow sound on my Fender guitar. I like them. Do you have any similar strings for a mandolin, preferably for bluegrass style?

    • Woodtone Strings

We’re working on our mandolin strings now — we’ll have light gauge and medium gauge. We should have them launched in about six weeks and you can find them on our website when they’re available. Hope you can try some out!

I bought 4 packs, to try on each of the following guitars: Guild D55, Guild D20, Guild D125, and a Masterbilt Epiphone EF-500. The tone is amazing. There’s enough boom on the top strings to move the tops around and made all 4 sound like cannons! The light side is equally perfect. You can bend, and still have your tone too. With a very light coating, these are the most comfortable playing strings in production. That matters because I play over 200 shows per year.. Goodbye D’Addario. So long Elixer. It’s Woodtones for me. Made In the USA!

Hey WTS, I recently put a set on. Tone was great but I had an issue with the big E and A strings going dead after 2 gigs. I had recently purchased two sets so I put on the second set and played one set. They sound and feel great. For me the verdict is still out, but am looking forward to playing them this week. I play a j200 and tune down a half step. I will write another review after I play the other set.

    • Woodtone Strings

Hi Cory – Sorry the E and A strings went dead on you. That normally isn’t an issue with our strings so I’m not totally sure what happened there, but we’ll send you a free bonus pack today to make up for it. Hope they work out better for you this time! – Rob

I purchased these strings a few weeks ago, but I thought there was some life on my last set so I waited. Today, I cleaned my guitar, and put the new strings on…WOW! I know that strings don’t make you a better guitar player, but it sure feels that way. The strings are easy to play like lights, but have a clear, rich tone like mediums. They ring out and sustain sound. I think I’ve found my permanent strings. Wonderful!

Ordered 3 sets. First set installed 3 days ago on an 1984 vintage Alvarez model 5022 acoustic dreadnaught guitar. I am totally satisfied….even amazed at how sweet the guitar sounds and easy on fingers. I have played acoustic guitar for 50 years (I am 67) and had settled in using nothing but D’Addario Phosphorus Bronze coated light gauge for years after experimenting with Elixers, Martins….etc. BUT I’m liking these new Woodtone strings. They have more of a natural “woodtone”. They are not quite a boomy BUT the tone and the even volume of each string is worth the trade. Of course longevity will be the test. Thank you Mr. Woodtone for making a high quality string at a fair market price. I will be ordering more. (I own 5 guitars 🙂 ~Kevin

First of all, I just re-strung my Martin 000R guitar. I’ve been using light guage strings for some time now and these play a little harder. The sound is fantastic and I’m hoping I can adjust to the shall we say less flexible Woodtone strings.

    • Woodtone Strings

Glad you like the sound! We’ll have light gauge strings available in a couple months — they are in production and on the way soon. We think you’d love the lighter gauge on your 000R since it has a smaller body. Our new light gauge strings will have light tension as well which is great for 000 body style guitars. Great strings. Some of the best sounding I have used. However, one of the packs I ordered came with two high E strings and was missing the G string. I ordered three packs so it wasn’t a huge problem, but for the price, I would expect better quality control.

    • Woodtone Strings

Glad you’re happy with the tone! Really sorry about the one pack that had duplicate E strings. We’re not sure how that could have happened since we’re really careful about quality control but somehow that must’ve slipped through the cracks! We apologize! First time I ordered from Woodtone, I ordered 3 sets so I would have extra, glad I did because when I changed my strings and got to the G string I got within a 1/2 note away in tuning and it snapped. I took another from the second set and same thing. So close then snap. Luckily the 3rd set the G string did tune. Had no other issues with the other strings just two sets short of a G string. With all that said I do love the strings and love the sound from them.

    • Woodtone Strings

Hi Michael, Sorry those two G strings gave you trouble. Glad you like the strings though! We’ll mail you a few replacement G strings tomorrow so you have two complete sets and a backup G string just in case. G strings are the most susceptible to breakage because the core wire of the G string is the thinnest wire in a set of guitar strings, but if it happens again when you’re installing the next G string, you may want to check the tuning post for any sharp edges or burrs. The guy in this article shows an easy method for smoothing down sharp tuning post edges and how to check for issues in the nut slot Glad you’re liking the Woodtone strings! Let us know if you need anything else in the meantime.

After a couple of weeks, I am SOLD on these strings!!! Had to really test them first! No question, they are very comfortable on the fingers after long stretches of playing, but the tone is wonderfully superb as well! Of course, this ‘in-between’ Gauge string set is PERFECT! I’ve been wanting this gauge set for years! Primarily a EJ-17 guy on my D-18, I definitely like these strings better! Super job to Woodtone strings! And like MANY other reviews mentioned, I ‘too’ had played so many different sets of strings over the years. Sure, the playability of ‘Lights’ were great, BUT lost some volume and tone. ‘Mediums’ – gave me more volume, but they would wear you out over a period of time. I also never really wanted more tension on the Bridge than was necessary. ‘Bluegrass’ set? Same issues. CONCLUSION: You WILL not be disappointed in these strings, in my opinion, if you are desiring that perfect blend between Lights and Mediums!

These strings are fantastic! As a long time Eli**r player I really enjoy the fact that these have a coating on them. The tone is superb and they sound great on my D-18 and my D-28! These are the only strings I will use from now on!

Was it worth import tax £3 and £8 handling to ‘Rip Off’ Royal Mail (UK postal service)? IT WAS!! Fitted and stretched them yesterday and they sounded great but today they will get a real ‘Road Test’. Thanx to Devin at for the recommendation. Hopefully there will be UK stockist within 6 months when I will be buying more!

    • Woodtone Strings

Thanks Padmapriya! We’re working on getting the strings in some UK shops soon so you’ll be able to save on the shipping next time — we’ll keep you posted. Appreciate the review!

Great strings! Super tone, clear and strong. The playability is amazing, I had no idea how much of a positive difference the slight drop in string gauge would make. These strings are winners!

I usually don’t write reviews on products but I thought I should share my opinion. I’m so impressed with these strings. Been playing on them the last week and I’m ordering more strings for my second guitar.

All I can say is that the tone is so great and it’s easier to play on the lighter gauge. I agree with the other reviews, these strings are legit.

The strings feel nice under my fingers, with a very natural and clear tone which is what I love about the sound of an acoustic guitar.

I love the country series strings! Compared to medium strings that I usually play these are so much easier to play and they have a very rich and warm tone. Highly recommended!

I am 100% sold on Woodtone strings. They sound amazing on my Martin D-28 and they have a really nice feel to them. The gauge right between lights and mediums is key. Happy customer.

I love these strings! They really do feel lighter than medium gauge and a little heavier than lights. Nice tone as well, you can’t go wrong with these.

To me, the Woodtones sound way better than Elixers and they don’t start to peel like Elixer poly and nano coated strings. The “halfway” gauge is nice and easy to play and I’m so happy with the tone for country. Great!
